FAQs about Shibumi® rentals at Oak Island
What is the pickup procedure for returning the Shibumi®?
Place the packed Shibumi® in its original drop-off location by the scheduled pickup time on your departure date. Please ensure the gear is left accessible to our drivers and not locked inside a garage, closet, or screened porch.
How much wind is required for the Shibumi® to work?
A minimum steady breeze of 3 mph is required to keep the canopy floating. The Shibumi® works with the natural sea breeze and can handle winds up to 20 to 25 mph, but it will not stay aloft on completely calm, windless days.
How many people can fit under the Shibumi® shade?
It comfortably seats 6 to 8 people side-by-side. The canopy produces roughly 150 square feet of UPF 50+ shade, leaving ample space for beach chairs, coolers, and beach bags.
How do you set up the Shibumi® on the beach?
Assembly takes only 2 to 3 minutes for one person. Snap the shock-corded aluminum pole together, slide it through the canopy sleeve, bury each pole end 8 to 10 inches deep into the loose sand facing directly into the wind, and fill the center anchor bag with sand.
Can the Shibumi® be used on grass, docks, or hard surfaces?
No, it is strictly designed for sandy coastal beaches. The pole ends must be pushed 8 to 10 inches down into loose sand to secure the arch, making it unsuitable for grass, dirt, concrete, docks, or packed gravel.
Do I need to be present at my Oak Island rental home for delivery?
No, you do not need to be present when your gear arrives. Your Shibumi® will be dropped off at the ground level of your Oak Island vacation home by {deliveryTime} on your selected delivery date.
Oak Island beach equipment rental delivery guideWhat is the return procedure on pickup day?
Return the shade to its carrying case and set it out at your original ground-level delivery location by {pickupTime} on your pickup date. Please verify that the gear is accessible to our drivers and not locked inside a garage, storage shed, or screened porch.
How do wind conditions on Oak Island affect the Shibumi®?
The canopy requires incoming coastal wind to stay aloft and must be positioned facing perpendicular to the breeze. If Oak Island's coastal winds shift direction during your beach day, simply pivot the curved arch to face directly back into the wind.
